History of ISRES
ISRES’ 2010 - The first edition of the symposium was organized both to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the formerly Center for Energy Research (CIE-UNAM, today renamed as Institute for Renewable Energy, IER-UNAM) and the one hundred years of the foundation of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM (the largest university in Mexico and Latin America). The ISRES 2010 was held at the installations of the CIE-UNAM in Temixco Morelos City (August 9-10 2010).
Nine international keynote speakers were invited among which stood out: Professor Dr. Donald Aitken (Donald Aitken Associates, USA: Renewable Energy Planning and Policy), Dr. Leopoldo García-Colín Scherer (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and El Colegio Nacional, Mexico: Physicochemical principles of climate change), Dr. Carlos Gay-García (Center for Atmospheric Sciences, UNAM, Mexico: Climate Change), Professor Dr. Yogi Goswami (University of South Florida, USA: New and Emerging Developments in Solar Energy), Dr. Claudio A. Estrada Gasca (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Thermal Solar Energy), Dr. Karunakaran Nair (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Photovoltaic Solar Energy), Dr. Subir K. Sanyal (Geothermex, USA: Future of Geothermal Energy), Dra. Helena Chum (National Renewable Energy Lab, NREL, USA: Biomass, Biofuels and Sustainability), and Dr. José Sarukhán (CONABIO, Mexico: Biodiversity).
As a successful result of the ISRES’ 2010, a Special Issue was published in the international journal of Solar Energy:
ISRES’ 2013 - The second edition of the symposium was organized in the formerly Center for Energy Research (CIE-UNAM, today renamed as Institute for Renewable Energy, IER-UNAM) in Commemoration of the 2012 International Year of Sustainable Energy for All (declared by the United Nations), and to promote the use of renewable energy and sustainability strategies. The ISRES’ 2013 was simultaneously held in the installations of the UNAM (Mexico City) and the IER-UNAM in Temixco Morelos, Mexico (20-22 March 2013).
Eleven international keynote speakers were invited among which stood out: Prof. Dr. Oumarou Savadogo (Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Canada: Frontiers of Fuel Cell Technology), Dr. Mariano López de Haro (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Thermodynamics of Irreversible Processes), Dr David Jones (British Geological Survey, UK: Carbon Capture and Storage), Dr. Roberto Best y Brown (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Thermal Solar Energy: Solar Refrigeration), Prof. Andrew Burke (University of California in Davis, USA: Supercapacitors), Dr. Xavier Mathew (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Photovoltaic Solar Energy: Solar Cells), Dra. Guadalupe Huelsz Lesbros (CIE-UNAM, Mexico: Energy in Buildings), Dr. Oliver M. Probst (Tec. de Monterrey, Mexico: Wind Energy), Ing. Raúl Maya González (CFE, Mexico: Geothermal Energy), Dr. Stefan Hirschberg (Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland: Energy Systems Analysis), and Dr. Sabino Chávez Cerda (Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica, México: Photonics).
As a successful result of the ISRES’ 2013, two Special Issues were published in the Journal of Material Science: Materials and Electronics and Applied Thermal Engineering:
ISRES’ 2015 - The third edition of the symposium was organized in the Institute for Renewable Energy (IER-UNAM) to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Temixco, Morelos. The ISRES’ 2015 was concurrently held in the cities of Cuernavaca and Temixco, Morelos, Mexico (September 9-11, 2015).
Twelve international keynote speakers were invited among which stood out: Dr. John Turner (National Renewable Energy Lab, NREL, USA: Hydrogen from Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting), Dra. Santhamma Nair M. (Institute for Renewable Energy, UNAM, México: Tin Chalcogenide Thin Films and Solar Cells), Dr. Andreas Reuter (Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology, Germany: Innovation in Wind Energy), Dr. Aarón Sánchez Juárez (Institute for Renewable Energy, UNAM, México: Design of Photovoltaic Power Plants), Dr. Jose Luis Villate (Tecnalia, Spain: Ocean Energy), Dr. Arturo Morales Acevedo (CINVESTAV-IPN, México: HIT Silicon Solar Cells), Professor Dr. Luiz A. Horta Nogueira (Universidade Federal de Itajubá, Brazil: Renewable Energy Development in Brazil), Dr. Octavio García Valladares (Institute for Renewable Energy, UNAM, México: Design and Thermodynamic Analysis of Compound Parabolic Concentrators for Heat Generation), Dr. Sebastian Pathiyamattom J. As a result of the ISRES’2015, a Special Issue was again published in the international journal of Applied Thermal Engineering:
Bibliometric Analysis of the ISRES Special Issues. A bibliometric record related to the total number of cites reported for all the papers published in the ISRES special issues has been analysed. The total record of cites indicates that most of the papers published overcome the individual impact factors of the international journals selected (i.e., Solar Energy, Applied Thermal Engineering, and Journal of Material Science: Materials and Electronics). This analysis is used as an Indicator of the scientific quality and impact of the ISRES papers. The following table summarises the results of such a bibliometric analysis study:
